| Thorburn Associates Inc. (TA), a full service acoustical consulting and technical system engineering firm, has been selected as the acoustical engineer for the new IMAX 3-D 15/70 theatre at the Minnesota Zoo in Minneapolis. The firm has also been chosen as the acoustical engineer for the IWERKS 3-D 15/70 theatre at the Ontario Mills Mall in San Bernardino county, California. Both theatres are currently under construction and are scheduled to open in early 1997.
Thorburn Associates has been involved with a number of other large format theatres which have recently been opened, including: the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis 15/70 dome theatre; the Hearst Castle (San Simeon, CA) 8/70 theatre; and a specialty theatre located at Pier 39 in San Francisco.
TA’s theatre services often include Room Acoustics, Sound Isolation, and Mechanical Noise and Vibration Control, as well as the design of audio systems. Our engineers also perform certification testing for the theatres’ projection and audio systems, plus testing of the facility’s acoustical characteristics to ensure it will provide the optimum ambiance for the sound system.
