| Steven J. Thorburn received the '96-'97 ICIA Professional Education and Training Award at the recent 10th annual ICIA Achievement Awards Presentation. The ICIA (International Communications Industries Association) awards ceremony was held during the INFOCOMM International trade show in Los Angeles, California. The ICIA is a 58-year-old organization which has supported the audiovisual industry from the early days of film and slide to today’s computer and video industry.
This award is given to recognize a person whose continued participation in education and training within the communications industries promotes the newest technologies and methods, provides methods to successfully compete in the global market, fosters professionalism within the trade, and promotes the industry as an exciting career opportunity.
During the award ceremony, Walt Blackwell, ICIA’s Executive Director, noted that, “Steve has been instrumental in many ICIA training facilities over the year. He and his company have also provided all of the audio and video system engineering services for the ICIA Academy in Fairfax, Virginia.”
Steven J. Thorburn is a co-founder and Principal of Thorburn Associates, an Acoustical Consulting and Audiovisual System Design firm with offices in Castro Valley and Burbank, CA. The firm typically works on corporate, medical, live and cinema theatre, education, and themed entertainment projects. Mr. Thorburn frequently teaches seminars and lectures on both acoustics and audiovisual system design. He is the presentation facilities technical consultant for Sound and Video Contractor magazine, leisure entertainment series writer for Systems Contractor News, the Chairman of ICIA's Design Consultants’ Council, and a member of the ICIA Academy Faculty. |
