| Thorburn Associates (TA), in alliance with Audio Visual Imagineering, Inc. (AVI), was pleased to provide engineering and audio system design for the new “NightLights” musical laser spectacular, at Hersheypark, Pennsylvania, which opened to the public on May 18, 2001. The first season proved to be a successful. The show received enthusiastic reviews from attendees: “I liked the entire show but I have to say the ending was phenomenal. That was very nice having a patriotic song at the end.” “It was excellent … it was awesome. I couldn’t believe you did ‘The Time Warp’ and ‘God Bless the USA’.”
"Nightlights” is a custom laser show featuring spectacular laser images choreographed to this year's hottest hits along with some all time favorites. This twenty-minute show allows the audience to experience colorful images of familiar Hershey product characters including highlights of the town of Hershey, PA. The laser is projected onto a forty-foot by sixty-foot screen and is shown as Hersheypark closes.
The audio system delivers sound to an area of 200 x 350 feet, with a minimum deviation in sound level. “Developing a line-loudspeaker-array system, we have been able to create magic for the senses,” states Steve Thorburn, Principal at TA. “The primary challenge for this project was confining the audio noise to the parameters of the park thus preventing noise levels progressing to the surrounding neighborhood.” This was accomplished with a loudspeaker array that is 12 feet high and 4 feet wide. The loudspeakers are suspended from steel towers that extend 60 feet in the air and span the screen to a width of 60 feet providing excellent acoustics.
