The concept of acoustical consulting first originated during the late 1800's but did not become an established industry for several years.  Wallace Clement Sabine, the first to scientifically analyze acoustics,  advised architects in designing new structures as well as providing considerations for existing buildings. 

As the world becomes more densely populated, people  require better sound isolation and acoustical privacy.  As audio technology improves, people want better room acoustics.   Depending on the purpose of the room, TA designs for music, speech clarity, sound isolation, mechanical noise control, speech privacy or a combination of all of these.
